Join geologist and board member Leanne Wiberg on a 1.5-mile guided walking tour of the western National Mall. This tour delves into the Mall's "stone story," from bedrock geology to historic construction, with insider insights on the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument gleaned from her previous "geologist-only" access. Our discussions will include building stones, architectural styles, and recent renovations, as well as a preview of STEM-focused exhibitions planned for this summer's semiquincentennial celebrations. A Happy Hour gathering will follow.

Meeting point: Gather at the top of the escalator at Smithsonian Metro Station, which is accessible by way of the blue, orange, and silver lines.  If it's raining, we'll meet at the bottom of the escalator where it should be drier. Rain plan: we will walk together to the National Museum of Natural History and up to the Rock, Gem, and Mineral Hall in the east wing.

Registration: Open to 15 registered DCSWA members.
