As Edgar Degas once wrote, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” In a world where words and art are intimately linked together, this quote rings particularly true for the art linked to science storytelling. While science writing creates the landscape, science illustrations and drawings help build a mental picture of invisible processes and thus, evoke emotions in ways that only art can.
This year, DCSWA is hosting a virtual panel event called “The Art-ists Behind Science Storytelling,” where we will talk to illustrators and animators who have visualized the world ranging from the miniscule to the vastness of the universe.
The hour-long panel will be moderated by DCSWA Board Member Prabarna Ganguly, with an audience question portion at the end. Panelists will discuss their career choice, how they pick projects, their conceptualization process, and why science images matter.
Panelists
Jeff Day — Medical Illustrator, Johns Hopkins University
Christine Liu — Co-founder of Two Photon Art
Nicolle R. Fuller — Scientific Illustrator and Animator
The event will be held on zoom. You'll receive an email before the event with zoom login information.
