The U.S. National Entomological Collection is the second largest insect collection in the world, with approximately 35 million specimens representing 300,000 species. DCSWA members and non-members are invited to talk to the staff entomologists and tour the collection. In addition, you'll get to see their scanning electron microscope and a macropod montage imaging system. You'll also meet Taina Litwak, their staff scientific illustrator.

The tour will conclude with discussions on how museum staff work with entomologists at the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture to identify and control invasive species, and how they intercept insects at U.S. ports of entry and airports.

When: Tuesday, August 21, 2018, 6-8pm
Where: The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, 10th St. and Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20560
Cost: Free, but a $5 deposit will be required. If you attend the event, your deposit will be returned.
Questions: Richard Levine, rich.levine@verizon.net
